On June 23, 2021, the Parliamentary Budget Officer (PBO) published a legislative note of the cost of the federal carbon tax exemption for marketable natural gas and propane used by eligible farming machinery as provided in Bill C-206, 43rd Parliament, 2nd Session.
This note provides additional information related to federal infrastructure spending in Canada between 2016-17 to 2026-27.
On November 24, 2021, the PBO published a report on Bill C-83 and the cost of implementing structured intervention units in federal correctional institutions.
Following the report’s publication, the PBO was asked for additional information regarding: the amount spent and allocated for full body scanners, a break down of where health funding has been spent, and the per-inmate cost of operating structured intervention units in a women’s institution compared to a men’s correctional institution.

On December 8, 2021, PBO published the report “Energy sector and agriculture: federal revenue forgone from tax provisions” which provides estimated revenue impacts for the items requested.
On July 24, 2020 the Parliamentary Budget Officer (PBO) reported on costs incurred from the Government’s policy of allowing employees to use pay code 699 paid leave for other reasons.
To use the tool, the user must only enter in the appropriate boxes the expected revenue and spending associated with the measure(s) for which they want to estimate the cost in interest. Interest rates projected by the PBO are then applied to the difference between the revenue and the spending. As a result, the user will be able to see the cumulative surplus/deficit including public debt charges associated with one or more measures. The results are displayed over a 5-year horizon.
In April 2021, the Canada Development Investment Corporation (CDEV) published its Annual Report for 2020. PBO examined this document as part of our ongoing monitoring of financial reporting on the Trans Mountain Pipeline (TMP) and Trans Mountain Expansion Project (TMEP).
